TD AMERITRADE TO SCHWAB TRANSITION

WHEN IS THE TRANSITION?

The transition from TD Ameritrade to Schwab will officially take place over Labor Day weekend.  As of Tuesday, September 5, 2023, your accounts and documents will be live on the Schwab Platform and Schwab will be the custodian of your accounts. 

WHAT TO EXPECT?

First, we want to assure you that your relationship with Pinnacle and access to your Pinnacle client portal will not change.  There is NO action required on your part as all TD Ameritrade Accounts will be securely transitioned to Schwab over Labor Day Weekend 2023.  Although it's not required, we do recommend establishing your client credentials so that you can turn off paper statements, securely approve and sign Schwab documents and make address changes going forward.  

In early August, you should have received your personalized Key Information Packet from Schwab with all your new account information.  If you did not receive or have misplaced this Packet, please contact us.  Included in your packet, was a pamphlet containing detailed information about the transition.  Click here for a copy of that informational pamphlet.

WHAT IS CHANGING?

  • Account Numbers.  Once your accounts are transitioned to Schwab, you will have new 8-digit account numbers. All TD Ameritrade account numbers will no longer be valid.  Your new account numbers were provided to you in your Schwab Key Information Packet and will available on your Pinnacle client portal.
  • Money Request Timing.  3 Business Days - Please be aware that all money requests will now take 3 business days to complete. This means that you should expect the funds to be transferred to your bank account 3 days after you’ve made your request for funds during trading hours.
  • Custodial Online Account Access.  AdvisorClient (TD) is now Schwab Alliance.  Client account access will be on the Schwab Platform – Schwab Alliance (Click HereWe highly recommend creating a Schwab Alliance login so that you turn off paper statements, securely approve and sign Schwab documents and make address changes going forward.  Click HERE for Instructions on creating your new credentials.  Instructions were also included in your Key Information Packet from Schwab.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Is there anything I need to do?   No. There is nothing you need to do before the transition. Your accounts will automatically & securely transition to Schwab over Labor Day Weekend 2023.  You do NOT need to open separate accounts at Schwab.  Although it's not required, we do recommend establishing your client credentials at Schwab Alliance so that you can turn off paper statements, securely approve and sign Schwab documents and make address changes going forward. Click HERE for Instructions on creating your Schwab credentials. 

  • Will my investments and/or account information be changed during the transition?  No. All investments will remain invested during the transition and not be sold to cash. Similarly, all account information including registrations, beneficiaries, and personal account information will remain the same through the transition.

  • Will I have access to my Account History and Documents?   Yes. Account history, statements, and tax documents will all transfer from TD Ameritrade to Schwab.

  • Will I still receive my scheduled account distributions?  Yes. All standing instruction on client accounts related to scheduled distributions will remain in place.

  • Do I need to update or re-establish my bank account to receive and/or contribute funds?  No. All standing letters of authorization (SLOAs) on your accounts related to banking will remain in place.

  • Will I need to order Schwab checks if I had TDA checking?  No. If you actively used TDA checks or debit cards within the past 2 years, you will automatically receive replacements from Schwab.  After Labor Day, begin using these new checks/debit cards from Schwab and securely destroy your old checks/debit cards. Pinnacle would be happy to securely shred these for you at any of our Ohio offices.  Outstanding checks drawn against your TD Ameritrade account will continue to be processed for up to 60 days.
